Not only humans are good at arithmetic, believe it or not even baby bird have the ability to calculate basic arithmetic. Researchers from the Universities of Padova and Trento, found that baby birds demonstrate the ability to add and subtract an object when it is moved behind two screens.

In this study, scientists concluded the baby animals can distinguish between two and three in the experiment is consistent with higher image. According to them, this ability is inborn. When baby animals was three or four days they could count without being taught. In the experiments performed, a baby bird collect an object into groups of two or three.

"Researchers used a small plastic container containing balls. Then we make it as 'disappear' by moving them behind the screen once in a while, "said Professor Regolin reported by BBC News, Friday (03/04/2009).

In simple math test, a small bird saw before him a clear box while one of the researchers move balls are slowly behind the scenes, each with three balls on the first screen and two balls on the other side of the screen. When the doors open boxes, baby bird into smaller areas so that they can choose to look behind the screen.

Apparently, they chose correctly and add the numbers based on groups of objects that they can not see at that time. The baby bird approached the larger objects even though they rely on memory by practicing with a screen that they choose.

"In further studies, we occasionally hide the balls behind each mirror, then move it from one side to the other. Seen that the baby birds can count balls in motion which screen hid the larger set at the end of displacement, "said Regolin.

"They still chose correctly, add and subtract objects as groups that are not seen by them at the time," he added
